Groupe Le Massif: A Major Supra-Regional Economic Driver

Boosting Tourism from Charlevoix to Québec City
Groupe Le Massif has unveiled the results of an economic impact study* conducted by Québec International. Over the past decade, the economic contributions of this recreational tourism destination have doubled, establishing its activities as a powerful growth engine. In 2024, Groupe Le Massif generated $72.6 million in regional economic benefits, with $58 million directly contributing to Charlevoix’s economy.
This independent study confirms Groupe Le Massif as a key player in the economic vitality of Charlevoix and Québec City. “For Daniel Gauthier and our entire team, our greatest accomplishment with the Massif de Charlevoix project has been creating a tourism ecosystem that enriches our community. The real strength of Le Massif de Charlevoix lies in its ability to generate significant economic benefits by attracting international tourism that injects fresh money directly into our local economy,” stated Claude Choquette, President of Groupe Le Massif and HDG.
Today, as a renowned international four-season destination, Le Massif de Charlevoix supports 950 direct and indirect jobs. Its activities are a major economic stimulant, engaging over 450 businesses and self-employed workers from Charlevoix as suppliers. Back in 2002, when Daniel Gauthier acquired the mountain, the resort employed only 150 part-time staff.
“Groupe Le Massif’s activities do more than stimulate the local economy; they also generate $11.2 million in annual revenue for all levels of government,” added Mr. Choquette.
Club Med: An International Success with Major Local Impacts
In 2024, visitors to Club Med Québec-Charlevoix contributed $21.8 million in economic benefits for the Charlevoix and Québec City regions. Remarkably, 85.5% of these visitors came from outside Québec, bringing fresh capital into the Québec–Charlevoix economic hub.
Club Med Québec-Charlevoix, a cornerstone of regional tourism, currently attracts 43,500 visitors annually and is on track to exceed 50,000. These visitors account for 2.9% of annual traffic at Québec City Airport and play a pivotal role in increasing the region’s global visibility.
“We are incredibly proud that Club Med Québec-Charlevoix, located at the base of Le Massif, ranks among the top three Club Med mountain destinations worldwide in customer satisfaction,” stated Mr. Choquette. “This success reinforces the region’s position as a premier international destination. By attracting visitors from across Canada, the United States, and overseas, Club Med plays a crucial role in promoting tourism beyond Québec,” he added.
