Le Vol de l’Oiseau mécanique, Le Massif de Charlevoix's new signature activity, took to the skies during its world premiere on Friday, June 23, and is scheduled to run until September 4. A scenic carousel ride spanning nearly 6 km, this evocative evening experience lasts approximately 90 minutes and takes visitors on a sensory journey under the starry sky aboard Le Massif's chairlifts.
An exciting adventure representing a new generation of spectacle, this daring project features quadraphonic sound and evocative lighting effects. This tour de force is the brainchild of Atelier Occhio, composed of Stéphane Mongeau, Yves Aucoin, Martin Labrecque, and Olivier Kemeid, along with Le Massif de Charlevoix and its executive producer Daniel Gélinas. Le Vol de l'Oiseau mécanique boasts an original soundtrack by renowned composer Philippe Brault. A tribute to the majesty of nature in the magic of the night, this contemplative and interactive show reveals the invisible to all its visitors against Le Massif de Charlevoix's extraordinary backdrop.

Magical evenings under starry skies
Tickets for Le Vol de l'Oiseau mécanique are on sale on the Le Massif de Charlevoix website ($39.50 for adults, $29 for 13-17 year-olds, and $19.75 for 7-12 year-olds). Admission is free for children aged 6 and under. In addition, Le Massif offers visitors the chance to enjoy a panoramic meal at Camp Boule buvette de montagne, a wonderful restaurant located on the mountain's highest peaks. Reservations are strongly recommended, as some time slots are already fully booked.

The creative team behind Le Vol de l'Oiseau mécanique
The Atelier Occhio collective, the creative force behind the project, brings together leading local designers. Co-creator and lighting designer Yves Aucoin has been traveling the world for over 35 years, regularly collaborating with world-renowned artists such as Céline Dion. He founded the visual design company 4U2C in 2013 and has provided lighting for major events such as the closing ceremonies of the Pan Am Games in Toronto and the Asian Games in Jakarta. He also designed the lighting for Cirque du Soleil’s Love.
Stéphane Mongeau, co-producer and executive producer, is a prolific force in productions around the globe. In addition to directing the productions of Kà, Totem, Amaluna, and Cirque du Soleil's Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour, he has overseen projects based on the Netflix TV series Stranger Things and Bridgerton. Co-founder of 4U2C, he also played a key role at Lune Rouge.
Co-creator and playwright Olivier Kemeid is a leading figure on the Quebec theatrical scene, where he has served as the artistic director and co-director of Théâtre de Quat'Sous for several years. He has written over 15 plays, several of which have been translated abroad, as well as two novels, and has collaborated with a number of major artists, including Robert Lepage for Projet Riopelle.
Martin Labrecque, co-creator and lighting designer, is undoubtedly one of the most gifted and renowned lighting designers of his generation. Renowned in the world of theatre for having produced over 200 lighting designs, he has also spent the past 20 years designing lighting for Cirque du Soleil's Cortéo, Kooza, Kurios, Luzia, and Drawn to Life.
Drawing on their individual and shared experience in fields as varied as theatre, opera, circus, music, and events, the creators of Atelier Occhio are thrilled to present their latest creation on the flanks of Le Massif.
In addition to original music by Philippe Brault, Le Vol de l'Oiseau mécanique features a unique soundscape by Jacques Boucher, set design by Mariko Samejima, video design by Félix Fradet-Faguy, and production direction by Robert Lemoine.
This large-scale production has been made possible thanks to Le Massif de Charlevoix, the Tourism Industry Recovery Program developed by Quebec’s Ministry of Tourism, as well as Tourisme Charlevoix (in collaboration with the Secrétariat à la Capitale-Nationale and Destination Québec Cité through the Québec 2022 call for projects for economic and tourism recovery.)
